The Family Tree
Thought for the Month: The SunTree Traveler
The club had two Swimming Pool events in August, both were held at the Organ, NM home of some SunTree members. The events were unusually quiet, but enjoyable conversations (few dared to use the water cannons out of fear of repercussions). A planned event in El Paso had to be cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. Our apologies to anyone inconvenienced by that change. During the weekend of that planned event, several of the members concocted a substitute camping event in the usual SunTree camping spot in the Gila National Forest. The area has magnificently recovered from the forest fires of 2003. The extra rain that has fallen during the spring, then during rainy season has turned the SunTree campsite very green. The reports from the campers indicate that the weekend was fantastic. With a little more weather like this year, the camping trips for next year should be perfect.
Speaking of camping trips: The Club event reported in the last newsletter to be scheduled for the last weekend of September has been slipped one week. The current plan is for the camping trip to Faywood Hot Springs to be held on 2 & 3 October. See the events listing.
SunTree received an invitation from the Roadrunners Naturist Club in Albuquerque to join them for their Labor Day Weekend in the Sandia Mountains. Word was sent out to the members, but we already had our own event planned. We thank the Roadrunners for the invitation and hope that we might be able to plan a future event with them soon.
You will Need to Plan to Get Up Before Sunrise to Appreciate September September is not a very exciting month unless you plan on getting up early in the morning. The only thing of interest in the evening sky is the planet Uranus and you will not be able to see that without a telescope (sorry). The mornings however will be fantastic. Most of the big shindig for the month of September occurs in the morning skies. The month's activities start (appropriately) on the first. Gaze into the eastern skies (if your eyes are ready for gazing at 5:30 in the morning) where you can see, about half way from the horizon that the top of the sky, two buddies hanging out together. Venus and her friend Saturn will be in an intense conversation. Far below them, on the horizon, poor little Mercury will be peeking over. Each day, Mercury will rise a little higher into the sky until the fateful day when the enormous star, Sol will follow it the overpower all others in the morning sky. There will be a neat triangle on the morning of the tenth when the Moon (crescent), Venus and the bright blue star Regulus will form up for the display. Three days later, that same crescent Moon will pull up next to Mercury for a little tête-à-tête. The Autumnal Equinox will occur on 22 September at 10:30 AM, the week before the SunTree gang plans to soak away the first weekend of Autumn at Faywood Hot Springs. That will allow Autumn to get a good start before we do some serious soaking. © 2004 SunTree Travel Club - Site updated Winter 2012 |
