Thought for the Month
The second mouse gets the cheese.

Thanksgiving Month

It is hard to believe that beach and swimming pool season has already ended. Did you go everywhere that you had planned to go? I sure did not.

I think that it is time to include a few personal as well as club-wide messages of thanksgiving. NOTE: These are not in any pre-planned order, they are ordered just as they pop into my mind.

Thanks to my car tires for waiting until I got back from that trip in August before falling apart.

Thanks to Barbie and Dave, the founders of SunTree for getting all of this great bunch of nice people together in the first place.

Thanks to the guys at the tire store who fixed the flat on my truck and balanced all of my wheels for no charge even though I told them that I had not purchased my tires there (I will in the future).

Thanks to the crew at Faywood Hot Springs for providing a great place for SunTree to have our events.

Thanks to whichever neighbor it was who pulled all of the Pizza Hut, Merry Maids and political circulars off of my front door when I was out of town for a week.

Thanks to the SunTree members who communicate their thoughts, suggestions, complaints and compliments on the running of the club.

Thanks to our neighboring clubs (this month, the Buff-a-Teers (T)) for joining SunTree in our events and accepting/inviting us to their events and facilities.

Thanks to all of the wonderful SunTree members and former members who have opened their homes to host the club events throughout the years.

Thanks for the great assistance from Bev Price at Arizona Wildflowers, Bob Morton at Hill Country Nudists (T) and the folks at The Naturist Society when it was requested.

Thanks to Sage, the wonderful lady at Paradigm Graphics & Web Design for tolerating my inadequacies and keeping the SunTree website in great shape.

Thanks to the canine members of SunTree for being there when one of the humans had a real need for puppy comfort.

Thanks to my own sanity (or mental numbness) that I am now about a quarter of the way through my jury pool duty.

Thanks for the great rains that we had this year (advice for next year, try not to chose between drought and flash-floods, try for some sort of happy medium).

Thanks for everything from the fantastic members of SunTree Travel Club!

The SunTree Traveler

October Pool Closing in Alamogordo

The weather was beautiful, the water in the pool was clear and comfortable; the food was abundant and delicious.

The closing of the pool in Alamogordo was a delightful event for all.

The four-legged SunTree members got all (almost) all the attention that they demanded.

It was a beautiful weekend to say farewell to the swimming season.

Halloween Weekend at Faywood Hot Springs
The October birthdays event, as usual coincides with the annual Halloween event at Faywood Hot Springs. The October birthday event came about in the early days of the club when one of the founders of the club (no Barbie, we have not forgotten you) noticed the large numbers of members who had October birthdays (including her), so a tradition was started.

Now well over a decade later, we are still having our October birthday event. In recent years it has been combined with the Halloween costume (or uncostume) event at Faywood Hot Springs. It is one of the favorite times of the SunTree year and tends to be the most popular event.

November Club Doings

Pre-Thanksgiving Weekend at Faywood Hot Springs
The weekend before Thanksgiving has become a regular event weekend for SunTree. During the last two years it has become a soak event when we moved the event from Arizona to Faywood Hot Springs.

Our previous venue for this event ceased to be, so it was nice that Faywood was available to us.

There will be a Saturday evening potluck with a costume optional policy. Bring along your favorite dish to try out on the members and bring yourself as well.

November Celestial Events

Gradually, the planets are returning to the evening skies this month

Evening sky: Last month, we could see Jupiter, but it is in hiding behind the Sun this month. Venus is back in the evening sky, but you cannot really see it. It is too low to the horizon to be easily observed. Orion and the brilliant winter stars return this month rising well before midnight

One bright spot this month is Saturn, which now rises by 11 PM at midmonth.

The real highlight this month (if we could see it) would be the first transit of Mercury visible throughout North America in decades. You will need some special equipment to see it unless you wish to burn out your eyes (not recommended) looking directly at the Sun. Specially equipped solar telescopes or binoculars with strong appropriate filters will show the innermost planet march across the Sun's face on 8 Nov. 25 - 27 Andromedid Meteor Shower in the late evenings, but not much activity. Expect to only see an occasional "falling star".

The “evening star” will still be Vega this month.

Morning sky: At 1 AM on the morning of 13 November, the bright spot above the Moon will be Saturn. Regulus will be just below the Moon.

At dawn on 26 November, Mars will be low in the east mostly washed out by the light of the rising Sun. Just above it will be cute little Mercury. Just above Mercury and to the right will be the star Spica.
